Capitalising on China's digital cultural explosion
4 December 2008 - 14:15How can the international education community understand and reach out to a 'netizen population' of more than 250 million?
China is experiencing a major explosion in its digital culture. Chinese 'netizens' are using social internet sites and Web 2.0 on an unprecedented scale. QQ.com, one of the most popular sites in China, generated revenue of $520 million and a profit of $224 million in 2007. But in the same year, Facebook made a loss of $50 million
on a total revenue of $150 million. The difference in scale is astonishing. In this session, online digital entrepreneur Sam Flemming provides an insight into this phenomenon and explores how international educators must respond. This will be followed by a panel discussion.
