Gearing up for the future: skills and knowledge under the microscope
25 March 2010 - 13:45
A framework for 21st century learning that maps out the skills needed to thrive in a complex and connected world will be presented by Charles Fadel. The content includes basic core subjects, and emphasises interdisciplinary themes, such as global awareness, financial/economic literacy
and environmental awareness. Martin Green will provide a complementary perspective to the framework above. Although recent findings from the OECD indicate that Canada has improved its overall performance in education and skills, and now ranks second to Finland, it has over seven million adults who may lack the functional literacy to adjust to changes in the economy. What is the Government of Canada doing to address
this challenge? This session will also look at one of the significant issues facing Arabian Gulf nations: the education of their citizens to enable them to participate constructively in their countries' future. It will discuss the extent to which the opening up of higher education has affected
national students and the current human development issues for Dubai
