International student choices and the changing higher education landscape

Did you know that worldwide, internationally mobile students in Business and Administration are more likely to study abroad than students in
other fields? Or that students travelling from East Asia and the Pacific to study in the US tend to choose Business and Administration, while
those travelling to the US from South and West Asia concentrate more on Engineering and Science? How do these apparent trends affect us? Can a better understanding of these data assist host nations and institutions in refining their recruitment strategies? Can knowledge of subject area and level of study help policymakers in sending countries to identify deficits in their local tertiary education systems? Chiao-Ling Chien will analyse data from a variety of sources and investigate trends in the preference of level and field of study for mobile students from different regions
