Past, present and future: internationalisation and partnerships in China
26 March 2010 - 10:30
How internationalised are Chinese institutions and what can we learn from previous models of partnerships with China? This session sets
the context for future collaboration in China. Ping Kuang will evaluate the internationalisation of Chinese institutions. The presentation will outline a number of categories and indicators that can be applied to the international activities of institutions, resulting in a measurement of internationalisation. Ping Kuang will also demonstrate how this methodology might be applied to institutions globally. Using China as a case study, Ewan Dow will outline different models and dimensions of partnerships. Ewan argues that there are three fundamental aspects to partnership including: understanding the history of Chinese institutions; understanding local setting and perspectives and; the importance and sophistication of national drivers. The discussion will explore how 'internationalised' Chinese institutions are compared to their counterparts and whether the characteristics of the 'Anglo-Chinese' model are unique to China or can be applied to all partnership
