Succeeding in the global competition for academic talent

This session looks at the results of a survey of 2,900 university administrators and faculty members in the US, and at a survey of faculty members in the major English-speaking countries. The surveys examined the interests and fears of academics about working outside their home countries. The information gathered can help institutions adjust their recruiting to increase their chances of attracting academic talent. The session will also look at ways of screening and interviewing job applicants to make sure they are capable of succeeding, not just in the particular position they are applying for, but as expatriates and participants in the multicultural setting of the new institution. The personality profile of successful expatriates will be discussed along with the approaches that managers can take to improve expatriates' adaptation to their new employment setting.
