Internationalising Higher Education

This session will explore why and how Indian higher education provision has changed so dramatically over the last 20 years, with increasing numbers of students. In India, there are now more providers, wider varieties of research and teaching institutions, more foreign providers and many more private colleges and universities.
There are now an estimated 20,000 plus HE institutions across India. This session will address some of the following questions:
- Where have been the growth areas in Indian higher education - and what might have been the drivers for these?
- Why are there so many private providers?
- What do we know about the operations of foreign education providers in India?
- What are the implications of the changing policy and regulatory frameworks?
To improve understanding of the Indian operating context, a number of studies carried out under the aegis of UKIERI will be presented.
