What do employers seek and how can we deliver?

25 March 2010 - 15:00

Evidence shows that employers now place an increasing value on international students.Major businesses look for graduates who can work across cultures, who are sympathetic to those who have different views and ideally have experience of studying or working in different countries. Those who have shown the drive, the determination and the selfmanagement skills to study overseas are more likely to be enterprising and show initiative. Students who cannot travel or study overseas may be disadvantaged. However, some businesses may not appreciate the value of international graduates. This session considers what universities and employers can do to give all students a fair shot at the best jobs and how universities can better partner with their peers around the world so as to develop joint curricula, student and staff exchanges and a true multicultural learning experience. It will consider the barriers for this and how they may be overcome. The session will look at how governments can better work to embrace the value of multicultural exchanges and a multicultural workforce, and explore recent evidence on the views of employers, enabling delegates to share experiences and address the issues posed above
