Internationalising Higher Education

Professor Amena Begum is currently a member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, on secondment from University of Dhaka, and has been involved in teaching and research throughout her career.

Professor Begum received her PhD from University of Edinburgh after which she worked as Senior Scientific Officer in the Nuclear Physics Division of the Atomic Energy Commission in Bangladesh. In 1982 she joined the Physics Department of University of Dhaka as Assistant Professor, becoming Professor of the department in January 1998. She also spent four years as Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, King Saud University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Professor Begum continues to teach a minor course on physics and supervises several MSc research students every year. She has over 25 publications in national and international scientific journals.
